70 OVs return home for Hung Kings Festival
Hanoitimes 11:15, 2014/04/04
Around 70 overseas Vietnamese (OV) are returning home to attend the Hung Kings Festival and visit Truong Sa (Spratly) islands.

They will offer incense to Hung Kings to commemorate the founders of the Vietnamese nation during the national festival taking place from April 7-14.

The information was released by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA), at a press briefing in Hanoi on April 3.

During their stay, the Vietnamese expatriates, most of them currently investing in business operations in the homeland, will make a tour of a number of historical and cultural relics across the country, including late President Ho Chi Minh’s presidential place in Hanoi, and General Vo Nguyen Giap’s Grave and the UNESCO-recognised Phong Nha-Ke Bang Cave in Quang Binh province.

In addition, they will visit and present gifts to Truong Sa islanders and attend a requiem to commemorate Vietnamese martyrs who laid down their lives to defend the nation.

At the press briefing, Son said that during his recent trips to the US, Canada and the Republic of Korea in March, he met with many OVs and helped them gain a better understanding about the current situation at home.

He assured them the Party and State consider OVs as an indispensable part of the Vietnamese nation.
