Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2018, with title “Charming Ao Dai,” officially commenced on Nguyen Hue walking street in the last weekend.
As the highlight of this year’s festival, the opening ceremony introduced 800 designs under 13 Ao Dai collections with the message of “I love Vietnamese Ao Dai.” This year’s festival has attracted the participation of 22 famous designers with more than 1,200 creative designs.

The event has feature 16 main cultural and artistic events, including the “Charming Vietnamese Ao Dai” competition, an art programme entitled “Ao Dai—fashion trend applications,” talk shows at schools, and a Vietnamese-Japanese cultural exchange themed “Ao Dai and the tsunami fabric flower.”
Over 3,000 people of different ages in traditional Ao Dai joined a mass performance in Nguyen Hue pedestrian street on March 4, a highlight of the 5th Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival. On the occasion, many secondhand ao dai dresses were donated to less fortunate women. Additionally, fifty poor students with outstanding academic results were handed out scholarships.
Last year, the 4th Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival with the title “Ao Dai–I Love Vietnam” officially kicked off in Nguyen Hue walking street on March 3. As the highlight of the year’s festival, the opening ceremony saw the participation of municipal leaders and the ladies of the consulates of India, Hungary, South Korea, Cuba, Thailand, Finland, Singapore, China, Italy, and Germany.
The annual Ao Dai Festival aims to honor traditional Vietnamese dresses throughout the ages, as well as contribute to attracting more domestic and foreign visitors to Ho Chi Minh City. Co-organised by the city’s Department of Tourism and the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union, the event will run until March 25 and is expected to attract 80,000 visitors.
