12,000 branches of cherry blossoms on display in Hanoi

The cherry blossom festival aims to promote Japanese cherry blossom to Hanoi’s people, while introducing and promoting the tourism potential of the Vietnam’s capital to the people of Japan and international friends.

The cherry blossom festival opened at Ly Thai To Park, Hanoi, on March 10, attracting many visitors.
Attending the opening ceremony of the cherry blossom festival 2017 were Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung and Isao Iijima, a special advisor to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan said that the cultural exchange activities and cherry blossom festival in Hanoi aim to enhance mutual understanding and deepen the two countries’ extensive strategic partnership.

The festival also promotes images and beauty of Japan to Hanoi’s people, the vice chairman added.
The entire area of Ly Thai To Statue flower garden has been decorated with 50 cherry blossom trees and 12,000 branches of cherry blossoms, plus some traditional flowers of Vietnam, to serve the capital city's people and visitors.
On the occasion, Japan also presented a fire truck as a gift to Hanoi.
As many as 12,000 blossom branches and 50 cherry trees were on display, along with various types of flowers planted in Vietnam such as orchids and roses.

Besides, several art performances featuring Vietnamese and Japanese artists were organised at the opening ceremony, along with a showcase of ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress).

The festival is co-organised by the People’s Committee of Hanoi, the Wanokai International Culture Association (WICA) from Japan, and the AIC Company.
The festival runs through March 12.
