On September 18, US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink celebrated the 2018 Mid-Autumn Festival with children at the Children with Disabilities school in Soc Son district, Hanoi.
Ambassador Kritenbrink joined nearly 100 children at the Children with Disabilities school in Soc Son district to make moon cakes and masks to celebrate the 2018 Mid-Autumn Festival.
According to the ambassador, this is the first time he attends a children's event as US Ambassador to Vietnam. “Through the 2018 Mid-Autumn Festival at the Children with Disabilities school in Soc Son district, Hanoi, I would like to express my appreciation for the traditional culture as well as the love for children in Vietnam,” the ambassador emphasized.
On this occasion, US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink gave gifts to the teachers and students of the Children with Disabilities school.
Vietnam is the country with many beautiful festivals. There are hundreds of festivals each year. Besides the Tet Holiday, the Mid-Autumn festival is one of the most famous festive occasion and it is a traditional celebration for Vietnamese children.
Earlier, Ambassador Kritenbrink wrapped chung cakes (square glutinous rice cake) with the guidance of experts at his home in Hanoi. This was the first time he celebrated the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival in Vietnam.
Under the guideline of artisan Anh Tuyet, the ambassador carefully folded dong leaves around the Chung cakes. “The intricate process of layering leaves around the Chung cakes was quite complicated, however, I did well and it looked rather pretty,” he said.
