The event aimed to help improve asthma awareness and care for patients suffering from the debilitating disease in Vietnam.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien stressed bronchial asthma is a serious illness, and the health sector has made great efforts to improve the quality of treatment, control and prevention of the disease.
He proposed that Bach Mai Hospital closely coordinate with relevant sectors to implement a project on bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) across the country. According to the World Health Organization (WTO), there are about 300 million asthma sufferers worldwide. Latest statistics show Vietnam has nearly 4 million people contracting the disease, or 3.9% of the population.
