Vietnam: Xiaomi kicks Realme out of top 5 smartphone brands in Q3

Vsmart, a Vietnamese brand, maintained its fourth position in terms of smartphone sale in the third quarter of 2020.

Chinese brand Xiaomi kicked Realme from the fifth place in the second quarter (Q2) this year out of the top five smartphone brands in terms of sales volume in Q3 in Vietnam, according to the latest report on the smartphone market in Q3 by Canalys, a Singaporean market research company.

Xiaomi took the third position in this quarter as it surged with impressive growth, 114% compared to the same period of 2019 to 12%. 

Vsmart, owned by the Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, still retained its fourth position with a market share of 9% in Q3. Meanwhile, China's Vivo sales increased by 75% over the same period in 2019 with a market share of 9% in Q3.

Two leading positions belonged to South Korean brands Samsung and Oppo, however, sales of the two brands dropped 6% and 21% year-on-year, respectively. Samsung led in the terms of smartphone sales volume in Q3 in the country, taking a 33% market share. Oppo ranked second with a 15% market share. 

In the previous quarter, Realme was at the fifth position with a 9% market share, with sales up 63% over the same period last year.

In this quarter, Apple was not listed in the top 5 smartphone vendors in Vietnam again.
