World Vision helps Vietnam end violence against children

The initiative aims to build and maintain a safe, healthy, and non-violent educational environment.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) and the World Vision International (WVI) in Vietnam have signed an initiative on ending physical violence against children at home and school in the period of 2018-2022.

Accordingly, programs and activities, focusing on behavioral education for teachers and students, will be held across 14 cities and provinces nationwide.
 
The initiative, which was signed on May 17, aims to build and maintain a safe, healthy, and non-violent educational environment.

Appreciating the WVI’s effort, Deputy Education Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia stressed that the agreement cooperation plays an important role in ending violence against children, thereby contributing to ensuring children’s welfare in Vietnam.

The ministry and the WVI will coordinate to introduce knowledge and skills to help teachers and students prevent violence against children in schools. The two sides will work together to introduce active education methods for teachers, Nghia added.

For students, behavioral change education will be especially focused on helping them identify the risk of violence, improving their ability to handle situations and protect themselves from violence.

She pointed out the prevalence and complex developments of school violence, calling for joint efforts of organizations and social forces to implement solutions to such matter.

When children are able to live, learn and play in a safe and healthy family and school environment, they will develop comprehensively about their competence, to become useful citizens for the society, Nghia noted.
