Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai yesterday attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Thang Long thermal power plant in Hoanh Bo District, Quang Ninh Province.

Hai praised Quang Ninh's efforts in paving the way for the project and its support for local residents in land clearance.

He asked relevant ministries and sectors to co-operate with Quang Ninh Province authority and the project investor so that 600 MW plant work could be completed on time and safely.
He also asked the local authority to co-operate with the project investor to train local residents so that they can work for the plant when it is finished.
In 2011, the plant, backed by the Thang Long Thermo-Power Joint-Stock Company, was the first private thermal power plant in Viet Nam to be approved by the Prime Minister.
It is expected to be completed in nearly four years and be able to produce 4185 Gwh a year.
By 2030, Quang Ninh province plans to have 14 thermo-electric plants in Uong Bi, Cam Pha and Ha Long cities, Dong Trieu and Hai Ha districts.
