The announcement was made today [January 18] by the National Assembly’s Standing Committee.
Anh Xuan will hold the post until the National Assembly (NA) elects the new president, state media reported, but did not specify the time of the election.
The appointment of Anh Xuan is in accordance with the 2013 Constitution, the NA Organization Law, and the decision of the Politburo, the country’s most powerful body.
Anh Xuan was born in the Southwest province of An Giang. She held different positions in her hometown before being elected Vice President in April 2021.
Former Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh described Anh Xuan as a competent woman for her wisdom and confidence.
