Visiting Ho Chi Minh school in Ulan Bator
The High school No. 14 in Mongolia has put the Uncle Ho statue in s special place, which will make any Vietnamese visiting the school feels proud and happy.
The High school No. 14 is one of the first school in the capital Ulan Bator. The No. 14 has a significant meaning, as it was on the 90th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh, May 14, 1980, the Steering Committee of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party has decided to rename the school into Ho Chi Minh school.
I can feel the warm feeling and closeness when coming to Ulan Bator. As the first place I was taken to by a Vietnamese student Nguyen Van Quynh was the Ho Chi Minh school. At the school, I have received the warm welcome from the Principal – Mrs. Vaandad Tsetsgee, then she took me to visit the school. In 2013, the school was invested 100 billion VND to rehabilitate, which is currently in the final phase of construction. In the center of the third floor is the traditional room with the Ho Chi Minh sign: “This is the traditional room, where the Uncle Ho statue is placed in the center position. In this room, we also have pictures and documents with regard to his life, works and political career, as well as about the people and Vietnam”.
I was very impressed that despite the financial constraint, the school still have a room with nearly 100m2 to introduce about Uncle Ho, the landscape and people of Vietnam. This shows the love and appreciation of the Mongolian to Uncle Ho and Vietnamese. Mrs. Vaandad Tsetsgee said, with the traditional room, the school will have conditions to hold more activities to learn about Uncle Ho and Vietnam. Smiling with pride, Mrs. Vaandad Tsetsgee pointed to some pictures and said: “These are collected by students themselves”. She then showed me a paintings made by students about Vietnam.
I asked Mrs. Vaandad Tsetsgee that by naming the room after Ho Chi Minh, what is the message the school want to send to students? She said despite having not met Uncle Ho in person, but through books and media, she understands Uncle Ho is a great person. His sacrifice for the country, and his love for people are what every one must follow. As such, every year, the school always organize event for students to learn about the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, about the country and Vietnamese, while taking the birth of Uncle Ho on May 19 to be the graduation day for students. This has not only shown the friendship between Mongolia and Vietnam, but also a desire for generations of students to learn from Uncle Ho to become a good person and contribute to the country development. “I and my colleagues, especially students are very proud and honored to be able to work and study at a school named after President Ho Chi MInh” – Mrs. Vaandad Tsetsgee said.
Through what she explained to me about the school I understand Vietnam and Mongolia have many similarities with regard to the philosophy and morality about education. Especially is the passion for learning and the tradition of “veneration of teacher and respect for morality”. This may be the reason why Mongolian have respect and love for Vietnamese.
Mrs. Vaandad Tsetsgee said, before 1980, Ho Chi Minh School was named as the High school No. 14. Many high rank officers of Mongolia had graduated from the school, which is considered to be similar to the Chu Van An high school of Vietnam. In 1960, the school has been in cooperation with Chu Van An high school. At present, the school has nearly 200 teachers and staffs, and more than 3,000 students.
