Viettel asked to become one of world's biggest telcos
Since 2000, Viettel has earned an accumulated revenue of more than VND1.78 quadrillion (US$76.5 billion), and VND334 trillion (US$14.3 billion) in profit.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has expressed hoped that military-run Viettel would become among one of the biggest telecommunications firms in the world, belonging to the league of Huawei, Ericsson, Google, Facebook and Samsung by 2045, local media reported.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Viettel’s 30th founding anniversary in Hanoi on June 1, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that Viettel needs to fulfill its responsibilities as an important enterprise of the nation in gearing up 5G technology deployment, actively contributing to Vietnam’s digital transformation to grasp development opportunities in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Viettel should focus on developing high-tech defense industry and manufacturing electronic and telecommunications equipment, especially network infrastructure equipment.
In addition, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc also hoped that Viettel would become one of the exemplary state-run enterprises in Vietnam. He also asked ministries and sectors to create favorable conditions to help Viettel become one of leading economic defense groups in the region.
On this occasion, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented the Independence Order, first class, to Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group.
According to General Director and Standing Chairman of Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group Le Dang Dung, after 30 years, the conglomerate has become one of the world’s 30 biggest telecom groups and found a place on Brand Finance's list of the 500 most valuable brands in the world. Viettel has set up subsidiaries in 17 countries and earned an annual income of over US$10 billion, equivalent to 3% of Vietnam’s GDP.
