Vietnam’s trade turnover reaches over US$1 billion in 9 days of Lunar New Year

The country recorded a trade deficit of US$222 million during the period, lower than the deficit of US$315 million recorded in the 2018 Lunar New Year festival.
During the nine day of Vietnam’s 2019 Lunar New Year festival, Vietnam’s trade turnover reached over US$1 billion, up 12% against the same period of last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC).

Upon breaking down, the country’s exports climbed 34.6% year-on-year to US$389 million, while imports amounted to US$611 million, up 1.2%. 

This resulted in a trade deficit of US$222 million during the period, lower than the deficit of US$315 million recorded in the 2018 Lunar New Year festival. 

Electronic devices, computers and phones made up 68% of total exports, reaching US$263 million, followed by equipment and parts worth US$19.3 million, clinker and cement with US$10.5 million, petroleum products, US$10.3 million; vegetables, US$9.3 million; among others. 

Meanwhile, Vietnam mostly imported computers, phones and parts during the nine-day period for US$358 million, accounting for 60% of total. Other notable imported products included equipment and parts worth US$86.4 million, petroleum products US$21.2 million, cashew nuts US$18.2 million, among others.
