An investigation is underway to find the cause of the gun violence.

Twenty-six people were arrested for allegedly being involved in a gun attack at the police station in the Central Highlands of Vietnam yesterday [June 11].

Lieutenant General To An Xo, Spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security, this morning told the Cong An Nhan Dan (People's Public Security), the mouthpiece of the ministry, that investigators are hunting for more suspects.

He also urged residents to remain calm and follow the instructions of local authorities and police.

The gun attacks happened in the early morning of June 11 when an unidentified group opened fire on police stations in Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes, Cu Cuin District, Dak Lak Province, causing death and injury to several police officers, communal officials, and civilians.

On the same day, Minister of Public Security To Lam made a decision to posthumously promote four slain police officers when working in the communes, one rank each.

The ministry also provided VND100 million (US$4,300)/each to the policemen and VND50 million to two injured others.

Gun violence is extremely rare in Vietnam due to a ban on the possession of firearms, and the availability of weapons is limited on the black market.
