Vietnam's MIC issues code of conduct on social networks
Quynh Chi 19:05, 2021/06/19
The non-binding code is aimed at building ethical standards for behavior on social networks and creating a safe and healthy online environment.

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on June 17 issued a code of conduct on social networks targeting users and service providers in Vietnam.

The code encourages users to sign up with accurate personal data, share reliable information, and behave in ways that match traditional moral and cultural values of Vietnam.

It recommended that the users should not use hateful words, inciting violence, and discrimination based on regions, gender and religion.

Social network users should not post unlawful contents or information that slanders others, the code read. They must refrain from using offensive language, going against national customs and traditions, spreading fake news or conducting illegal advertising that undermine social order and safety.

The code of conduct encourages users to promote the country's development and culture, share positive information, stories of good people and good deeds and educational content as well as protectinv children and teenagers from being abused in the online platform.

Organisations and individuals using social networks and service providers are encouraged to fully implement the contents of the code and popularize it to other users.

The document takes effect from June 17.
