Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan affirmed that at the age of computers and the internet, the electronic library hasn’t replaced the book.
“Books remain a spiritual food indispensable in the cultural life of every person,” Tuan added.
The event, co-organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Hanoi People’s Committee, and the Vietnam Publishers Association, is one of activities to mark the 2nd annual Vietnam Book Day (April 21).
Aimed to encourage reading in the community, the annual event looks to raise public awareness of books as not only a source of knowledge but also a way to develop one’s thinking and personality.
The festival runs until April 21.
