Vietnam's anti-epidemic measures highly effective: WHO rep.
Anh Kiet - Tran Thao 18:41, 2020/05/13
Many international experts appreciated the close coordination by the Vietnamese side in the comprehensive exchange of information on the prevention and control of Covid-19 epidemic.

The anti-Covid-19 measures taken by Vietnam are timely and highly effective, Kinhtedothi.vn quoted Kidong Park, the World Health Organization (WHO’s) representative in the country, as saying at a recent meeting with the National Steering Committee on Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

Kidong Park said that he would spend time drawing experiences on pandemic prevention and control in Vietnam and share them with the international community.

Stressing that they feel safe when they live and work in Vietnam, PhD. Kidong Park and many international experts appreciated the close coordination between them and the Vietnamese government in the comprehensive exchange of information on pandemic prevention and control.

He added that a few days ago, a WHO expert team participated in a technical meeting to discuss updating the Covid-19 management guidelines, testing strategies, and death of Covid-19 patient No.251 in Vietnam who had a chronic liver disease. The experts said they trust the results of professional consultation carried out by Vietnamese doctors. The details are completely logical and there is no reason to believe it is incorrect.

The confidence is a result of the long-term cooperation between WHO, international experts and the health sector, laboratories, preventive research facilities and epidemiology in Vietnam, Kidong Park confirmed.

However, the WHO representative in Vietnam and some international experts emphasized that there has been neither Covid-19 vaccine nor specific drug available in the world that can cure people from the disease. Therefore, the pandemic is expected to last for months, even for years.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said that Vietnam is willing to share information, initiatives and lessons learned in the disease prevention with the international community, especially developing countries.

He emphasized that as the Covid-19 evolution in the world is complicated, Vietnam must keep strictly controlling foreign arrivals to ensure safety and be able to ease social distancing orders in the country to accomplish the dual goal of fighting the disease and ensuring socio-economic development.
