Vietnamese youngsters optimistic about job hunting
08:40, 2014/07/31
More than 74 percent of Vietnamese university students interviewed said they are confident to find a job one to four months after graduation, according to a fresh survey jointly conducted by the Adecco Vietnam and AIESEC Vietnam companies.
The findings, announced on July in Ho Chi Minh City, showed that 80 percent of the youngsters hope to seek occupations in accounting, information technology and finance.

However, in fact, only 20.75 percent of graduates got hired and it took them 6-9 months to seek favourite jobs, Adecco Vietnam General Director Nicola Connolly quoted last year’s statistics as saying.

She suggested young people prepare themselves with soft skills before entering the job market.

The survey also indicated that around 40 percent of the interviewees want to pursue post-graduate courses at home or abroad while three-fifths picked up working environment as a decisive factor for them to choose a job. Nearly half of the students commented that knowledge they acquire from university does not serve their future jobs much.

According to President of Marketing at AIESEC Vietnam Lee Dalchow, the survey was conducted on 2,657 students from 80 universities in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. Its questionnaire focused on four topics: study, work, communication and social responsibility.

After its second phase is completed in September, the survey will be maintained on a yearly basis.
