Vietnamese students win 7 medals at Asian Physics Olympiad 2019
The result reaffirms Vietnam’s quality of high school education in general and the training of gifted students in particular.
Seven Vietnamese students won medals at the 20th Asian Physics Olympiad, said the Education Quality Assurance Department under the Ministry of Education and Training on May 12.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese team was awarded two silvers, five bronzes and a certificate of merit.
The two silvers were won by Trinh Duy Hieu, student of 12th grade from the Bac Giang High School for Gifted Students in the northern province of Bac Giang, and Nguyen Xuan Ung, student of 12th grade from the National Science Gifted High School of the Hanoi National University.
The 20th Asian Physics Olympiad was held in Australia from May 5 to 13 with 165 contestants from 22 countries and territories, of whom 87 contestants won medals, including nine golds, 16 silvers, 33 bronzes and 29 certificates of merit.
According to the Education Quality Assurance Department, in term of the number of gold and silver medals by team, the Vietnamese one ranked fifth, behind China, Russia, Israel and Taiwan (China).

The Ministry of Education and Training will give the Vietnamese team a warm welcome at Noi Bai international airport upon their return on May 14.
