Vietnamese films to be screened in Russia

Vietnamese films will be introduced to audiences in Russia from October 27 to 31 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution.

The Vietnam Cinema Department will host the Vietnamese film days in Russia, featuring the screening of “Toi Thay Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh” (Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass), Cuoc Doi cua Yen (Yen’s Life), My Nhan (Beauty), 12 Chom Sao: Ve Duong Cho Yeu Chay (Zodiac 12: Five Steps of Love), and Em Chua 18 (Jailbait). The movies, with Russian subtitles, will be shown free of charge in theatres across Russia.
In which, Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass is a 2015 Vietnamese film. It was adapted from same novel by Nguyen Nhat Anh. It was directed by Victor Vu, produced by Galaxy Media & Entertainment Saigon Concert, Phuong Nam Film, PS Vietnam and K+ Television channel.
It was premiere in Cannes Film Festival 2015 and released in theaters on 2 October 2015. It was selected as the Vietnamese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards but it was not nominated.
In addition, Vietnamese movie Em Chưa 18 (Jailbait) earned record revenue of VND150 billion (US$6.6 million) following 16 days of nationwide screening, making it the highest-grossing Vietnamese movie to date. With revenue of VNĐ150 billion, Jailbait surpassed Em la Ba Noi Cua Anh (Sweet 20), the most watched Vietnamese movie that set the Vietnamese box office record in 2015 by earning VNĐ101 billion ($4.8 million) in revenue.
Besides, Em Chua 18 also screened at the 42nd Polish Film Festival, which runs in Gdynia city from September 18 to 23. The film screening was followed by a gathering of Vietnamese and Polish filmmakers and Vietnamese expatriates in the country.
