Vietnamese construction firms awarded contract to build My Thuan 2 Bridge

A consortium of Trung Nam E&C Corporation, Trung Chinh Trading and Construction Company Limited and VNCN Engineering and Construction Investment JSC will implement a package of the My Thuan 2 Bridge project.

Nguyen Chung Khanh, Director of the Ministry of Transport's Project Management Unit No. 7 said the consortium has won the bid for executing contract package XL.03B with a price of more than VND1.5 trillion (U$$65.4 million).

This package includes the construction of pier piles (from T14 to T17) and structure on the main span of cable-stayed bridge, riverbank reinforcement embankment, road traffic safety, and lighting system which ensures navigation safety during construction. It is expected to be executed in 26 months, from this November.

The project also has four other packages, including XL.01, XL.02, XL.03A, and XL.04.

The My Thuan 2 Bridge and approach roads at both ends are a major transport project, which will help complete the transport network connecting completed and under-construction main roads in the region, easing the burden on the current My Thuan Bridge and National Highway No. 1. 

Once operational, My Thuan 2 Bridge will link the expressways of Trung Luong - My Thuan and My Thuan - Can Tho to complete the high-speed road from Ho Chi Minh City to Cantho City.

The construction of the bridge started last August, with a total investment of over VND5 trillion ($216.4 million). The project is scheduled for completion in 2023.

Located 350m upstream of the existing My Thuan Bridge, the My Thuan 2 Bridge will start from the An Thai Trung intersection with the Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway in Tien Giang Province’s Cai Be District and end at an intersection with National Highway 80, on the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway in Vinh Long City.

The project has a total length of 6.6km including 4.7km of approach roads and nearly 2km of the main bridge. The six-lane bridge has a designated speed limit of 100km per hour.

It is part of the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway is nearly 23 km long, passing through Vinh Long Province and Chau Thanh District in Dong Thap Province.

With an investment capital of VND4.86 trillion ($211 million) and six lanes, the 23-kilometer expressway will be completed within two years, allowing the speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour.
