Vietnamese "Ao dai" space opens in Hanoi

Hanoi’s Tourism Department launched a Vietnamese "Ao dai" space at Lanhuong Fashion House at 18 Au Co Street in Tay Ho district on December 11.
According to Director of the municipal Tourism Department Do Dinh Hong, the launching of the Vietnamese "Ao dai" space aims to create a new tourist attraction for visitors to Hanoi as well as a meeting venue for fashion designers from home and abroad.
The space is also expected to facilitate cultural and tourist exchanges hosted by the municipal People’s Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Located inside Lanhuong Fashion House, which is owned by fashion designer Lan Huong, the space will display samples of Ao dai from different historical periods, from the Ly, Tran and Nguyen Dynasties to the modern day.
The designer has worked to promote the national costume to international friends. She was the first one to be awarded the Vietnam Ao dai Artisan title.

The venue provides a vivid overview of the Vietnamese women’s traditional costume by displaying the entire making process of Ao dai, using 100% domestic materials.
The space is designed as a museum depicting the story of the Vietnamese outfit: its history of development, its different designs from different Vietnamese dynasties, and its popularity in the life Vietnamese people from the past until now.
Visitors to the space can explore the process of making Ao dai, including designing, tailoring, embroidering and finishing them.
In addition, tourists can exchange talks with artisans from silkworm farming village of My Duc, Van Phuc Silk Village, Quat Dong Embroidery Village, and Trieu Khuc Weaving Village.
Addressing the launching ceremony, Director of Hanoi Tourism Department Do Dinh Hong said that the museum helps to introduce Vietnamese culture to visitors, serving as a new tourism sight for visitors to Hanoi.
Director Hong said that the opening of Vietnamese Ao dai space along with Ao Dai Festival 2016 in Hanoi aim to turn Hanoi into a fashion center in the future.
Lanhuong Fashion House is the first fashion place in Hanoi which has been recognized as a destination for tourists to the city, Hong added.
He hoped that the Vietnamese Ao Dai space will be an attractive venue that visitors can not be ignored in the journey to discover Hanoi.
At the event, which coincided with the Indonesian, Malaysian and Vietnamese Cultural Week, a fashion show was held featuring collections by designers from the three countries.
