Vietnam wins four gold medals at IMO 2017

Vietnam has won four gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal at the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2017.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this is highest ever achievement to be recorded over 43 years of Vietnam's participation in the IMO.
The four gold medals went to 12th graders, Hoang Huu Quoc Huy, from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province; Le Quang Dung, from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa province; Nguyen Canh Hoang, from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province; and Phan NhatDuy, from Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted in Ha Tinh province.

The silver medal was won by Pham Nam Khanh, an 11th-grade student from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted in Hanoi and the bronze medal was won by Do Van Quyet, a 12th-grade student from Vinh Phuc High School for Gifted in Vinh Phuc province.
In particular, Hoang Huu Quoc Huy was one among three gold medal winners achieving 35 points. With a total of 155 points, Vietnam ranked 3rd among 112 countries attending this year's Olympiad after South Korea (170 points) and China (159 points).
The US and Iran came in fourth and fifth place. The IMO 2017 is taking place in Brazil from July 12 - 23 with the participation of 615 contestants from 112 countries and territories.
The history of the IMO goes back to 1959 when its first edition was held in Romania. Since then, the competition has provided a stimulus for mathematics, offering a great opportunity for the creative exchange of ideas and experiences among students from many different cultures.
