Vietnam welcomes 1.6 million foreign visitors, record high monthly number

Vietnam has been selected as “Asia’s Leading Destination” in 2019 for the second year in a row at the World Travel Awards (WTA), the de facto “Oscar” award for the tourism industry.
The number of international travelers to Vietnam topped 1.6 million for the first time this October, raising the combined number of foreign arrivals to Vietnam in the January- October period to 14.5 million, accordingly the General Statistics Office of Vietnam

In October, foreign visitors to the country totaled 1.618 million, up 3.7 inter-monthly and 34.3% year-on-year. Of the amount, the number of people coming by air rose 1.8% while those by road and sea increased 11.3% and 32.9% respectively. 

Asian arrivals to Vietnam grew strongly by 41.2% year-on-year while those from Europea, Americas, and Australia slightly climbed by 7.3%, 10.2% and 1.5% respectively. 

The number of Chinese and South Korean visitors accounted for the lion's share among Vietnam's tourist markets, making up 56% of total foreign arrivals in the first ten months of the year. 

From January to October, Vietnam welcomed 11.511 million guests from Asia, accounting for 79.5% of the total and up 15.2% year-on-year. Of the amount, arrivals from some markets including China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, among others, increased steadily while those from Cambodia and Laos fell by 12.2% and 22%, respectively. 

The statistics also show growing trends of arrivals from Europe and America as the European tourists to Vietnam were 1.76 million, up 5.5% year-on-year, and the number of American holidaymakers visiting the country amounted to 807,500, up 7.1% year-on-year.

Vietnam has been selected as “Asia’s Leading Destination”  in 2019 for the second year in a row at the World Travel Awards (WTA), the de facto “Oscar” award for the tourism industry. 

Besides, Vietnam won in other three categories at the WTA ceremony for Asia and Oceania held in the country’s Phu Quoc island last weekend including "Asia’s Leading Culinary Destination" and "Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination" while the title "Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination" was given to the ancient town of Hoi An.
