A ceremony was held on December 19 to welcome Vietnam’s 15 millionth symbolic foreign guest, an American man named James Kopenec, at Ha Long International Cruise Port.
The visitor came along with 3,000 other passengers and sailors from five-star cruise Celebrity Millennium under the Royal Caribean. In addition, two visitors, including Annita De Vriesere from Belgium and Masahiko Nagishi from Japan, were the tourists number 14,999,999 and number 15,000,001 and were presented gifts and commemoration certificates.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien noted that the ceremony marked the result of the tourism sector’s efforts, while affirming that Vietnam is an attractive, friendly and safe destination.

With the successful organization of numerous important tourism events, the number of visitors travelling to Quang Ninh province in 2018 saw an impressive increase compared to the previous year, according to Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long.
Statistics of the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism showed the number of visitors to the province in 2018 is estimated at 12.2 million, a 24% increase from the same period last year. Of the total visitors, 5.22 million were foreigners from 150 countries and territories worldwide. Its revenue from travel services in 2018 is estimated at VND23.6 trillion (US$1.01 billion).
The number of foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam in the 11 months of 2018 is estimated at 14.1 million, a 21.3% increase from the same period last year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
