Vietnam wants OIF’s further support to French-language teachers

Vietnam wants the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) to improve the capacity of French-language lecturers in the country, said an official.
Deputy head of the Ministry of Education and Training’s High School Education Vu Thi Tu Anh made the request during the 16th session of the Orientation Council of the Asia-Pacific Regional Francophone Centre (CREFAP) – an OIF affiliate, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on February 29.
She also hoped that outstanding French-language lecturers and students in Vietnam would receive timely and due support.
Representatives from the OIF, Cambodia, Laos, Vanuatu and Vietnam attended the event which was held to adopt a strategy on French teaching and studying for the region this year.
The year 2015 marked the launch of the three-year programme “French as a foreign language” which is initiated by the OIF and carried out by the CREFAP. It looks to increase policymakers’ awareness about the importance of maintaining French language as a subject in school curricula, improve the capacity of French speakers and diversify extracurricular activities.
Last year, over 20 different activities got underway in the region, benefiting nearly 1,200 people, mostly high school and university lecturers and students as well as educational managers.
Vietnam has over the past time worked closely with the CREFAP to build a framework for assessing French teachers’ capacity, design a long-term training plan for them and actively join its extracurricular activities.
