Vietnam, US boost customs cooperation

Following the agreement, both sides have agreed to exchange intelligence and share customs data, strengthen cooperation in customs control, and fighting against transnational crimes.
Vietnam and the US have stepped up efforts for the signing of government-level agreement on customs cooperation, according to General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC).

The announcement was made at the meeting between Director General of the GDVC Nguyen Van Can and Deputy Commissioner of the US Customs and Border Protection Robert E.Perez on June 28 on the sidelines of the World Customs Organization (WCO) meeting in Brussels. 

Following the agreement, both sides have agreed to exchange intelligence and share customs data, strengthen cooperation in customs control, fight against transnational crimes, smuggling and trade frauds, and enhance the capacity of customs officers in professional fields.

Additionally, the US customs said it is willing to share experiences with Vietnam regarding the operation of the national one-stop-shop.

Both Vietnam and the US agreed to speed up the preparation process for effective implementation of the agreement. 

The annual meeting of the WCO Council was held from June 27 – 29 in its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, which is considered one of the most important conference of the year for 183 WCO member customs administrations.
