Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave the remarks at the 2nd ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit 2022 held today [October 12], themed “Building a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future: Unlocking women’s entrepreneurship in ASEAN”.

At the summit, Chinh stressed the significant role of women-led businesses in the socio-economic recovery in Vietnam and the region.

While building the ASEAN Community Vision, Chinh reaffirmed Vietnam’s stance in giving priority to gender equality and women empowerment,  promoting the potential of women in doing business and contributing to prosperity in the region and the world.

In this regard, Chinh expected governments to create favorable conditions for businesses in general, and women-led companies in particular, to contribute sustainably to the development process; form a synchronous legal framework that serves as the foundation to foster the entrepreneurial spirit among women.

“Female entrepreneurs should be able to participate in the law-making process actively,” he continued.

In addition, Chinh stressed the necessity for gender mainstreaming to be carried out at the national and regional levels; across all aspects of politics, economy, and society, especially in fields with many female workers.

According to Chinh, in a fast-changing business environment, businesses and women-led companies should enhance their resilience to cope with external shocks and grasp opportunities for new growth, such as digitalization, green growth, or circular economy.

However, regardless of the solutions, Chinh called for countries to raise public awareness of gender equality and women's empowerment to realize their potential truly.

With Vietnamese women’s day (October 20) approaching, Chinh wished efforts to promote gender equality and women's empowerment would gain more remarkable achievements, saying women with their rightful place in society would continue to shine and realize boundless strength, contributing to peace, stability, friendship and sustainable development in ASEAN and the world.

The 2nd ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit 2022 took place with the participation of countries leaders from ASEAN and female business leaders in the region and partners. Under the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Government leaders from Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, New Zealand, and others took part in the event and gave speeches.

The summit is the highest-level dialogue regarding gender equality and women empowerment, which put women at the center of efforts for cooperation and the construction of the ASEAN community.
