The meeting is the most important agenda under the 2021 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, hosted by New Zealand and chaired by Prime Minister Ardern.

President Phuc is expected to deliver a speech at the event that shares Vietnam’s view on the regional and global situation, along with the direction for further cooperation among APEC members in the coming time.

Under the theme “Join, Work, Grow, Together,” leaders, ministers, and senior officials from APEC’s 21 member economies will solidify their commitment to responding to the health and economic crisis and collectively determine a path for the region’s recovery that ensures resilience and sustainability.

On November 8-9, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien would participate in the  APEC Ministerial Meeting, co-chaired by New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs Nanaia Mahuta and Minister for Trade and Export Growth Damien O’Connor.

During a meeting with New Zealand’s Ambassador to Vietnam Tredene Dobson on October 26, President Phuc highlighted the role of New Zealand as the host of APEC 2021 amid unprecedented global challenges.

“Vietnam welcomes the draft Declaration of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, the plan to implement the APEC Vision until 2040, and stands ready to support New Zealand to successfully host the event,” Phuc said.

Established in 1989, APEC consists of 21 member economies, which account for about three billion people, half of the global trade, 60% of total GDP, and much of the world’s growth.

Vietnam officially joined APEC in 1998 and hosted the APEC Summit twice in 2006 and 2017.
