Vietnam, Singapore strengthen bilateral cooperation in education
On April 14, Dr. Pham Vu Luan,Vietnam`s Minister of Education and Training and his Singaporean counterpart Heng Swee Keat discussed the operations of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) and bilateral cooperation in education between the two countries.

As a president of the SEAMEO Council for the 2013-2015 tenure, Dr. Pham Vu Luan is paying a visit to Singapore from April 13-15 within the framework of SEAMEO.

Within the framework of memorandum of education copperation between the Vietnamese and Singaporean Ministries of Education signed on April 25, 2007, the Singaporean side has assisted Vietnam in upgrading English teaching methods for high school teachers at the SEAMEO RELC.
The two ministers talked about post-2015 education agenda for Southeast Asia, activities in 2014 and 2015 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organisation and education cooperation between SEAMEO and other groups in other regions.
Regarding to the operation of the SEAMEO Regional Language Centre, Minister Luan highly valued the support of the Singaporean Government and Ministry for Education in creating favourable conditions for operational efficiency of SEAMEO as well as contributing to training English teachers of SEAMEO member countries, including Vietnam.
Until late 2011, ten training courses with the participation of 300 English teachers has been organized in SEAMEO RELC.
Minister of Education and Training proposed that Singapore side help training English teachers for Vietnam, and holding more conferences to share the country’s experience with Vietnamese experts and lecturers in the fields of biotechnology, logistics, e-commerce and university and college management.
Minister Pham Vu Luan affirmed that Vietnam wishes to learn education's experience from Singapore, especially in the context that Vietnam has approved the project on comprehensive rennovation of education.
Heng Swee Keat expresses his belief that the Vietnam-Singapore close education partnership will continue playing an important role in the development of friendship relations and cooperation between the two countries.
On the same day, Minister Pham Vu Luan also visited the Crescent Girls’ School, one of the 13 schools which receives excellent awards of Singapore and works with Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore.
SEAMEO, a trans-governmental organisation in Southeast Asia , was established in 1965. Its official members comprise Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam
SEAMEO has estasblished 20 regional centres and a network to conduct its research and training programmes in different areas including education, science and culture.
