Vietnam seeks more holidaymakers from South Korea
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) plans to introduce Vietnam’s tourism in the South Korea’s Seoul and Daegu cities.
The VNAT has sent invitations to travel agencies, hotels and resorts across the country to participate in a program to promote Vietnamese tourism in South Korea, which is scheduled to take place from June 25 to 30, Hanoimoi newspaper reported.
According to the VNAT, the number of Korean visitors to Vietnam achieved impressive growth over the last several years and South Korea is considered a potential source market of Vietnam. In 2018, Vietnam welcomed 3.5 million South Korean tourists, a 44% increase from the year earlier.
To maintain this growth pace, the VNAT plans to introduce Vietnam’s tourism in the South Korea’s Seoul and Daegu cities.
A total of 1.11 million South Koreans made trips to Vietnam in the January-March 2019 period, up 24.4% from the same period last year, according to the data from the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).
It marks the first time that the quarterly number of South Korean tourists to Vietnam has surpassed the 1-million threshold. Tourism sources said Vietnam has emerged as a popular tourist destination for South Koreans thanks to low costs and diverse content, with demand for visiting China slackening in the aftermath of a 2017 missile defense row between Seoul and Beijing.
Earlier, Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador to South Korea Lee Chang Kun signed an agreement with the VNAT to establish an office to promote Vietnamese tourism in the host nation.
Under the agreement, the VNAT and the ambassador will provide information about Vietnam’s tourism to Korean travelers, organize tours to Vietnam, and help Vietnamese agencies and businesses host tourism promotion events in South Korea.
The agreement will be effective until December 31, 2020. Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador to South Korea Lee Chang Kun will partner with the VNAT’s Tourism Market Department to build and launch tourism promotion events as well as print and issue publications about Vietnam’s tourism.
