09:55, 2015/12/01
A Vietnam-RoK lacquer exhibition is taking place at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi from November 30 to December 12, according to Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) newspaper.
Called “Lacquerware- Vietnam and Ottchil- RoK”, the event, the first of its kind, is exhibiting 39 pieces by 37 painters from Vietnam and the Republic of Korea, featuring the beauty of the two countries’ landscapes, people and lives.
Seminars to introduce the arts of both countries will also open at the Republic of Korea Culture Centre.

Lacquer art is a famous, ancient Vietnamese trade. Lacquer paintings with mother of pearl and inlaid sea shells are Vietnamese specialties.
Ottchil means lacquer in Korean. Artists extract the sap from ott-trees as main material for the art works, which feature recondite polish and the unique colours that are drawn from this material. Ott-tree sap is a material that is unique to the RoK’s traditional crafts.
