Vietnam remains Russia’s reliable partner: Putin

Vietnam’s Party chief also expressed his heartfelt condolences to Putin, the Russian people, and the families of those affected by the terrorist attack in Moscow on the evening of March 22, 2024.

Vietnam remains Russia’s friend and reliable partner, with significant progress in cooperation across various fields, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a phone conversation with General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong on March 26.

During the phone talk, Trong congratulated Putin on his re-election as President of Russia for the 2024-2030 term with a record-high number of votes from the Russian people, demonstrating their trust and support for Putin's leadership during this new phase of Russia's development.

The Party chief also expressed his sincere condolences to Putin, the Russian people, and the families of those affected by the terrorist attack in Moscow on the evening of March 22, 2024. He emphasized Vietnam's deep appreciation for the Russian Federation's significant assistance during the Soviet era and today and underlined Vietnam's commitment to prioritizing the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in its foreign policy.

For his part, Putin expressed his gratitude for the congratulations of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the timely expression of condolences and solidarity from the Party, State, and people of Vietnam on the losses suffered by the Russian people in the terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall on March 22, 2024.

Putin reaffirmed that Vietnam is a steadfast friend and reliable partner of Russia and expressed satisfaction with the positive developments of bilateral relations in all fields.

The two leaders exchanged views and agreed on several major directions to further promote bilateral cooperation in the coming period, including in areas such as security and defense, economy and trade, culture, and tourism.

On this occasion, Trong cordially invited Putin to pay an official visit to Vietnam at his earliest convenience. Putin accepted the invitation and agreed that both sides would coordinate to find an appropriate time for the visit.
