Vietnam pledges to make Asian Beach Games 2016 successful

Speaking at the Chef De Mission Meeting of the Fifth Asian Beach Games held in Danang city on June 1, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai affirmed that Vietnam pledges to do the best to host the event successful.
More than 60 delegates from 38 participating countries and territories across Asia attende the Chef De Mission Meeting of the Fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG) that was held in the central city of Danang on June 1.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai, who is also head of the fifth ABG organising board, affirmed that Vietnam in general and Danang city vow to do the best to make the event successful.
According to Vice Chairman of Danang People’s Committee Dang Viet Dung, the organising board has worked closely with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), heads of sport delegations and the Vietnam Olympic Committee to prepare for the games.
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the OCA Wei Jizhong  stressed the biennial ABG has become one of the largest sport events not only in the region but also globally. The OCA Vice Chairman also lauded Vietnam's good preparation and wished the event great success.
The ABG 2016 will be organised in Vietnam from September 24 to October 3, with the participation of about 6,500 athletes, coaches and officials from 45 Asian countries and territories.

At the 5th ABG, athletes will compete in 14 major events in marathon swimming, water polo, kabaddi, men's beach football, volleyball, handball, three-a-side basketball, sepak takraw (rattan-ball kicking), beach martial arts (wrestling, sambo, jujitsu, kurash, pencak silat, vovinam, muay Thai and Vietnamese traditional martial arts), shuttlecock kicking, petanque (iron ball bowling), bodybuilding, bowles (wooden ball), rowing and athletics. 
The East Sea Park, My Khe beach, Phuong Trang urban beach and Son Thuy seaside resort have been selected to be the event’s competition venues.
This will be Vietnam’s first time hosting the Games, a multi-sport Asian-level competition. The country has already organised the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2009 and the ASEAN-level competition in the 2003 Southeast Asian Games.
The ABG, initiated by the Olympic Council of Asia, was held for the first time in Indonesia’s Bali in 2008 and has been organised every two years.
