Vietnam reaffirms commitment to UN peacekeeping

Vietnam has pledged to support all United Nations peacekeeping efforts at a UN Security Council meeting on September 10. Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, stressed the need for effective measures to prevent hostile acts against peacekeepers and facilities, including enhancing interaction and building trust with local authorities and communities. He confirmed that Vietnam would be the first country to deploy police to peacekeeping operations.

Hue Autumn Festival to showcase international lantern art and cultural events

Hue Autumn Festival 2024 will feature the Hue International Lantern Festival from September 16 to 19, with artisans from Japan, Korea, China, and Vietnam. The event includes a lantern parade, an Ao Dai Fashion Show and a musical performance, providing a vibrant cultural experience during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Vietnam and Cuba promote legal cooperation

Representatives of the Vietnamese Bar Association and the Organización Nacional de Bufetes Colectivos (ONBC) signed an agreement to promote legal cooperation in the Cuban capital La Habana on September 10. Under the agreement, the two sides will foster the exchange of information and professional experience through seminars, lectures and in-depth training.

Budget revenue from import-export activities up over 13% year-on-year

State budget revenues from import and export between January and August increased by 13.1% year-on-year to VND274 trillion (US$11.13 billion), according to the General Department of Customs. During the period, the total value of import and export of goods reached US$511.11 billion, up 16.7% inter-year.

Danang to train at least 5,000 workers for semiconductor industry

The central city of Danang aims to train at least 5,000 workers for the semiconductor industry, including a minimum of 2,000 designers and 3,000 testers. The city has pledged to attract at least 5,000 highly skilled workers to the industry. There are currently more than 52,000 information technology workers in the city, with around 550 chip design engineers.

Airlines offer free transport of typhoon relief to northern provinces

Vietnam Airlines is offering free transport of relief to the northern provinces affected by Typhoon Yagi. From September 10, the airline will cover all transportation costs, including fuel and fees, for relief supplies from organizations and companies. The program will cover shipments to Hanoi, Haiphong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh and Dien Bien airports. In addition, Vietnam Airlines Group has donated VND300 million for relief efforts. Two other airlines, Vietjet and Bamboo Airways, are also offering free transport services for relief supplies.

Vietnam Open 2024 kicks off with top badminton talent and big prize pool

The Vietnam Open 2024, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 100 event, kicked off on September 10 at the Nguyen Du Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. The tournament features 307 players from 22 countries and has a prize pool of US$100,000. Vietnam's top players include Thuy Linh Nguyen, seeded first in the women's singles, and Hai Dang Nguyen and Duc Phat Le in the men's singles.

Viettel Post strengthens ASEAN-China logistics with new subsidiary in Laos

Viettel Post (VTP) has invested over US$5 million to establish a logistics subsidiary in Laos to strengthen links between ASEAN markets and China. This expansion supports its broader strategy to improve cross-border logistics infrastructure. Viettel Post's efforts include partnerships in China and plans to ship agricultural goods from Vietnam and ASEAN to China, boosting regional trade and competitiveness.

Trung Nguyen Legend opens coffee shop in HCMC Post Office

On September 9, Trung Nguyen Legend opened a new World of Coffee space in Ho Chi Minh City's iconic Post Office, which Architectural Digest ranked as one of the most beautiful in the world. This is the latest expansion, following openings in China and the US in August 2024, and aims to promote Vietnamese coffee culture globally. Known for its premium Buon Ma Thuot Robusta beans, Trung Nguyen Legend is planning global expansion to Australia, Canada, Japan and beyond, cementing its role as an ambassador for Vietnamese coffee.
