Twenty collectives and individuals were honored at the "2024 Glorious Vietnam" program with the theme "20 Years of Awakening the Strength of Vietnam" held at the Hanoi Opera House on May 19. They are role models and advanced examples in learning and following the thoughts, morals, and style of Ho Chi Minh throughout the country. Over the past 20 years, the program has honored 294 collectives and individuals.
Remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers returned to Vietnam
A ceremony was held in Laos' Salavan province on May 19 to repatriate the remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists. The soldiers were said to have fought in Salavan and Sekong provinces.
The remains of the soldiers were then taken to the Provincial Martyrs' Cemetery in Thua Thien Hue Province for burial.
Disease-free zones announced in Tay Ninh Province
The chain of events to recognize disease-free zones in the central province of Tay Ninh and to announce the plan to export poultry to the halal market was held on May 19 in Tan Chau District, Tay Ninh Province. This is the largest and most internationally significant series of events in the agricultural sector in the province and the Southeast region.
The province also announced seven new agricultural investment projects by De Heus Group and Hung Nhon Group with a total registered capital of VND2.5 trillion (US$98.2 million) for the period 2025-2030.
Hanoi, Quang Nam win National Golf Championship 2024
After two days of exciting and dramatic competition (May 18-19), the 2024 National Golf Championship - Nam A Bank Cup at Vinpearl Golf Haiphong came to a successful conclusion with the men's team championship going to the Hanoi Golf Association and the women's team championship going to the Quang Nam Golf Association.
Ho Chi Minh City finalizes general urban planning until 2060
On May 19, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the city government's plan to adjust the city's general layout until 2060. According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City will have a population of 16 million in 2060.
The southern socio-economic metropolis will be divided into five regions. Municipal authorities expect to obtain the approval of the National Assembly for the general planning in September.
Vietnamese airlines to explore night flights amidst aircraft shortage
Domestic airlines are increasing night flights to meet travel demand amid a shortage of aircraft, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. The agency told local media that local airlines are not renting and buying more planes, resulting in pressure on airfares nationwide.
To make airfares more affordable, the authority is also asking airlines to offer more discounts and promotions, in addition to increasing the number of night flights.
