Vietnam Airlines joins international emission measurement project

The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, has become the first Vietnamese business to join CO2 Connect, a project to measure the CO2 emissions of all airlines worldwide. Under the agreement, Vietnam Airlines will provide data to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to calculate its average emissions on each route and trip.

The agreement was reached at the IATA 2024 General Assembly in Dubai. Vietnam Airlines is also the first Vietnamese company to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for its fleet.

Vietnam's capital to escalate fight against dog and cat trade

Hanoi is considering several measures to reduce the consumption of dog and cat meat in the city as it strives to meet the international standards of a modern and friendly metropolis. According to the plan, the capital's authorities will severely punish individuals and organizations that illegally sell live dogs and cats to slaughterhouses.

The city will also raise public awareness about the risk of rabies from dog and cat meat products. In addition, Hanoi expects to vaccinate 90% of pets in the city.

Slovenian economist sees prospects for Vietnam-Slovenia economic ties

Ales Cantarutti, former General Director of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expects Vietnam-Slovenia relations to strengthen in the fields of labor, tourism, logistics, and trade in farm produce. According to the expert, Vietnam remains the key market for Slovenian businesses due to its rapidly developing economy and young population.

The Slovenian economist sees Vietnam as a gateway to the Asian market and hopes Vietnamese businesses will use Slovenia's EU membership to seek opportunities in the EU market of nearly 450 million consumers.

Vietnam tops medal tally at ASEAN School Games

Vietnam has topped the medals table at the 13th ASEAN School Games in the central coastal city of Danang. By the end of June 6, Vietnam had won 44 gold, 31 silver and 17 bronze medals. It was followed by Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

The ASEAN sports event brings together more than 1,300 student athletes from all 10 nations in the region. The festival ends later today (June 7) after seven days of competitions in swimming, basketball, badminton, pencak silat and vovinam.

Vietnam, China sign monkey export protocol

The protocol on quarantine requirements for the export of monkeys from Vietnam to the Chinese market was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China on June 6.

The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in agricultural trade and market opening in the coming period. In particular, the procedures for signing a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh coconut and frozen durian from Vietnam to China will be completed soon. Vietnam and China have signed 21 memoranda of understanding/protocols on the import and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

Binh Thuan aims to welcome 23 million tourists by 2030

The central province of Binh Thuan has approved a project to diversify tourism products by 2025, with a vision for 2030 to welcome over 23 million tourists. International visitors are expected to account for 15% of the tourists. Tourism revenue is expected to reach over VND70.1 trillion (US$2.75 billion), contributing 12% to the province's GDP.

Hanoi to have another industrial park in Thuong Tin

On June 6, the Hanoi People's Committee held a ceremony to announce the decision to approve the investment policy for the construction of Phung Hiep Industrial Park in Thuong Tin District, Hanoi. With a total investment of VND2.93 trillion (US$118 million), the project covers an area of nearly 175 hectares in To Hieu, Nghiem Xuyen, Thang Loi and Dung Tien communes. It is valid for 50 years from the date of investment approval and investor acceptance. The project must be completed within 36 months from the date of land allocation or lease by the State.

Hanoi to provide soft skills training for youth

Hanoi will provide soft skills training for young people and students from universities and colleges across the city from now until 2030, according to a recent decision by the city's People's Committee.

The plan consists of two phases, including the first phase (2024-2026) to organize training courses to improve the knowledge and soft skills of 100-300 teachers and management staff of vocational training institutions. The second phase (2026-2030) is expected to provide pilot training courses for 1,500 young people.
