United Nations praises Vietnam's peacekeeping efforts

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare on December 10 praised the outstanding contributions of the Vietnam People's Army in peacekeeping missions, especially in Africa, in celebration for the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22, 1944 - 2024). He stressed that peacekeeping is a pillar of the relationship between Vietnam and the United Nations and paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national independence and international security.

Vietnam reaffirms commitment to UNCLOS

Vietnam on December 10 reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in line with its policy of peaceful settlement of disputes. As a coastal state with 3,260 kilometers of coastline, Vietnam has achieved significant milestones in maritime delimitation with Thailand, China, and Indonesia, while actively contributing to international forums on maritime law.

Ninh Binh, Hoa Lu to merge into new city

Ninh Binh City in the northern province of Ninh Binh will merge with Hoa Lu District to become the new Hoa Lu City, according to a resolution approved by the National Assembly Standing Committee on December 10. As the ancient capital of Vietnam, Hoa Lu is home to three national special relics, including Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong, the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Complex, and Non Nuoc Mountain. The move is aimed at improving the management of the locality.

Significant progress on North-South Expressway projects in 2024

Vietnam's Ministry of Transport reports that the North-South Expressway projects (2021-2025) have accrued around $2.42billion, or 60.8% of their contract value. Disbursements in 2024 totalled $1.19 billion, or 79% of the annual budget. The ministry is urging contractors to accelerate progress towards the target of 3,000km by 2025. Construction on key sections such as Bai Vot-Ham Nghi is on schedule, while others face weather and material supply challenges. 

UN conference highlights role of rural tourism in sustainable development

The first UN International Conference on Rural Tourism, held in Hoi An Ancient Town on December 10, highlighted the role of rural tourism in sustainable development. Delegates from 50 countries discussed innovative approaches such as empowering communities and integrating agriculture and tourism. Vietnam highlighted its success, with rural tourism generating US$1.5 billion annually, creating four million jobs and contributing significantly to poverty reduction through ecotourism and community-based initiatives.

Sam Son beach attracts millions of visitors in 2024

Sam Son Township in the central province of Thanh Hoa welcomed 8.86 million visitors in 2024, generating US$700 million in revenue, accounting for 50.1% of the province's total tourism revenue. These results, announced on December 10, highlight the city's efforts to host cultural and sports events, improve infrastructure, and launch new tourism products to enhance its appeal and attract more international visitors.

Film Week celebrates 80th anniversary of Vietnam People’s Army

The Film Week celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army [December 22, 1944] kicked off in the northern mountain province of Cao Bang on December 10 and will run nationwide from December 19 to 25. Featuring films such as Sao xanh noi bien song or Blue Star at Sea, the event honors the history, bravery, and contributions of the army under the leadership of the Communist Party and President Ho Chi Minh.
