Vietnam and UK cooperate to combat illegal migration

Deputy Director of the Department of Immigration, Ministry of Public Security, Vu Van Hung and UK Minister of State for Countering Illegal Migration, Michael Tomlinson, signed a joint statement to combat illegal immigration and visa abuse on April 17 in London, UK.
According to the statement, Vietnam and the UK pledge to strengthen cooperation in communication campaigns on the risks of illegal migration to the UK. The two sides will also strengthen information sharing to prevent visa abuse and continue to facilitate the repatriation of migrants who are not legally entitled to stay in the UK.

Vietnam launches first national entrepreneurship index report

The National Association for Entrepreneurship launched the Startup Research Institute and released the National Startup Index Report on April 17.

The National Startup Index Report is a system for the measurement of the effectiveness of startup activities nationwide. The overall goal is to make Vietnam an attractive destination for potential entrepreneurs, build a knowledge and innovation economy, improve competitiveness, and foster youth entrepreneurship.

Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City rise to record in 3 years

Sources from the State Bank of Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City said that remittances to Ho Chi Minh City reached US$2.86 billion in the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 3.5% compared to the previous quarter and up 3.4% over the same period. This is the highest growth rate in the past three years.

Statistics show that remittances from Asia remain the highest at 59.1%, an increase of 86.1% over the same period. Meanwhile, remittances from Europe and Australia decreased.

Japanese investors pour money into One World City

A ceremony was held on April 17 in the southern province of Binh Duong to announce the investment and cooperation policy of four Japanese investors in the 50-hectare One World City.

The total investment for the project exceeds US$1 billion, with three Japanese partners (Sumitomo Forestry, Kumagai Gumi and NTT Urban Development Corporation) holding a 49% stake. The Vietnamese partner (Kim Oanh Real Estate Company) holds a 51% stake.

AEON Vietnam also announced its investment in a large-scale commercial center within One World City, its third  in the province.

Hanoi ranks third on Public Administrative Reform Index

Hanoi ranks third in the country in the Public Administrative Reform Index 2023, with a score of 91.43%. This is the second consecutive year that the city has achieved this result. The northern province of Quang Ninh leads the country with a score of 92.18%, followed by other localities such as Haiphong, Bac Giang and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

At the ministerial level, the Ministry of Justice achieved the highest score of 89.95%, placing it first in the Public Administration Reform Index 2023.
