Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine under the MoH Tran Dac Phu said the MoH has requested cities and provinces nationwide to continue using this vaccine in accordance with the national plan. Only Binh Dinh province reportedly suspended the use of the vaccine, Phu added.

He noted that normal reactions such as mild fever or a slight pain around the injection spot are reported in 1.73% of vaccined children.

Phu emphasized that all vaccines imported to Vietnam in general and ComBE Five in particular are brought in batches and each is inspected separately. Most of the vaccines meet safety standards and are licensed. More than 400 million doses of ComBE Five have been used for children in 39 countries and territories.

According to the World Health Organization’s documents, the normal response rate for vaccines containing pertussis percussion cells: Fever from 38 - 39 degrees of centigrade accounts for 44.5%, 38.5% of reaction, red hot spot injections can reach 56.3%, pain 25.6%, other reactions such as prolonged fussing are 3.5%. Severe reactions may include seizures, decreased muscle force, anaphylactic shock in about 20 cases per million doses of vaccine.
