Vietnam learns Argentina experience in healthcare
Vietnam`s top healthcare officials sought to learn about Argentina`s health system and policies in ensuring and improving public health, with special priority given to initial healthcare and preventive healthcare.
Vietnam wants to learn Argentina's experience in campaigns to prevent harm from tobacco, alcohol and non-contagious diseases, as well as experience in issues related to providing initial healthcare and promoting public health, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Vietnam’s Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien made the statement at a meeting with Deputy Minister in charge of health at the Ministry of Social Development of Argentina Adolfo Rubinstein, within the framework of her visit to Argentina from September 21 to 24.
Rubinstein and other Argentine medical experts presented a detailed overview of their country’s health system and policies in ensuring and improving public health, with special priority given to initial and preventive healthcare.
The experts said that primary healthcare is one of the priorities in the South American country's healthcare system by establishing a community health center from grassroots to central levels.
Regarding tobacco harm reduction campaigns, Argentina has rolled out a national tobacco control program at the end of 2003, aiming at reducing the proportion of smokers in the community, protecting people from cigarette smoke in public spaces and raising public awareness of the cigarette harm, as well as encouraging people to quit smoking, the experts said.
Argentina also passed an anti-tobacco law in 2011, including strict regulations related to tobacco advertising and imposed high tariffs on cigarette smoking, especially among young people.
