Vietnam-Japan University launches new science degree
A new brand of physics based science degree has been launched by the Vietnam-Japan University that combines core physics with courses on applications of science in the modern world.
Designed for students who wouldn’t normally take physics, the new interdisciplinary science degree provides another way into physics as graduates can also go on to study an integrated master in physics or another science.
The new degree allows the University to better tailor its programs to match student demand and their own expertise. The courses are aimed at people who want to take an interdisciplinary science degree or who didn’t take the right A-levels to study physics but who have the ability to do science.
President Son noted this new degree is just what is needed for the Vietnam education system to produce the very best all-round scientists for the country’s technological needs in the 21st century.
The program contains core physics such as optics and quantum mechanics together with other courses including the application of science in the modern world offering classes on such areas as climate change, nanoscale science and ecology.
Modern day companies need graduates who have multidisciplinary qualities, he said, and are not just experts in one field. Integrated Sciences degrees will be attractive to both students and industry alike.
The first class signing up for the new degree is comprised of 72 students for whom courses are starting immediately in concert with the new academic year just getting underway.
