Vietnam H1 trade turnover hits all-time high of US$245.48 billion

During the period, Vietnam reported a trade deficit of US$34 million, much lower than a deficit of US$548 million reported one month earlier.
Vietnam’s trade turnover in the January – June period hit US$245.48 billion, an all-time high recorded for the six-month period, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has said in a monthly report.

During the period, Vietnam reported a trade deficit of US$34 million, much lower than a deficit of US$548 million reported one month earlier. 

Upon breaking down, the domestic sector reported a trade deficit of US$15.72 billion in the period, while foreign-invested firms posted a trade surplus of US$15.68 billion. 

In June, Vietnam exported goods worth US$21.6 billion, down 1.4% month-on-month, while import value reached US$21.2 billion, down 8.6%.

Overall, Vietnam’s exports in the first six months of 2019 amounted to US$122.72 billion, up 7.3% year-on-year, and imports totaled US$122.76 billion, up 10.5%. 

In the first half of 2019, Vietnam’s services exports were estimated at US$7.9 billion, up 6.2% year-on-year, including tourism-related services worth US$5.6 billion, accounting for 69.9% of the total and up 7.8% year-on-year, followed by transportation with US$1.5 billion (18.5%), up 2.2%. 

Meanwhile, Vietnam imported services worth US$9.2 billion in the period, up 4% year-on-year. Of the total, transportation services reached US$4.5 billion, accounting for 48.5% of the total and up 7.1% year-on-year, tourism with US$2.8 billion (30.7%), up 0.7%.
