Vietnam gives priority to comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia: Party chief

Vietnam gives priority to its long-standing and strategic comprehensive partnership with Russia.

Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, emphasized this view today [May 21] during his meeting with Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev, who is currently on an official visit to Vietnam from May 21 to 23 as part of the cooperation agreement between the two parties.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, Trong welcomed the Russian guest, the first leader of the ruling United Russia Party, to visit Vietnam.

During the meeting, the Vietnamese Party leader shared with Medvedev the achievements of the Vietnamese State and people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which have raised Vietnam's status, reputation, and achievements to unprecedented heights, Trong said.

He also discussed the key goals of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which include economic, social, and cultural development.

While emphasizing the importance of Party building as a primary task, he highlighted the positive and synchronized progress made in anti-corruption and foreign policy.

The General Secretary stressed his admiration for Russia's achievements under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin and the United Russia Party.

For his part, Medvedev expressed his pleasure to revisit Vietnam and conveyed President Putin's warm greetings and best wishes to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnamese leadership.

Praising Vietnam's dynamic development, Medvedev expressed gratitude for the respectful reception the delegation received from the Vietnamese Party, State, and people.

He briefed the host on the situation in Russia, the status of the United Russia Party, and the state of relations and cooperation between the Russian Party and State and their Vietnamese counterparts.

Stressing the growing importance of relations and cooperation at the Party level, Medvedev agreed with the assessments and comments made by the General Secretary, especially on the main directions and measures to strengthen relations between the two Parties and countries in the future.

Both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the continuation of the long-standing friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia.

They highlighted the close cooperation between the two parties based on strong political trust, facilitated by high-level exchanges such as telephone calls between the General Secretary and Putin and Medvedev.

Despite challenges, both sides have made concerted efforts to promote cooperation in various fields, including economy, science and technology, and education.

General Secretary Trong stressed Vietnam's deep appreciation for the valuable support and assistance provided by the Soviet and Russian people. He reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to friendly relations, comprehensive strategic partnership and the importance of maintaining relations with political parties in Russia, including the United Russia Party, as a solid political foundation for sustainable bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in a constructive dialogue on their respective assessments of the current global situation, identified ways to promote positive developments in the world, and exchanged views on mutual concerns.

They discussed important approaches to strengthen the relationship between their parties and countries. These included enhancing mutual understanding and political trust through high-level visits and exchanges in flexible formats, improving the effectiveness and expanding cooperation in various fields such as economy, science, technology, culture, and education based on existing agreements, giving priority to the development and engagement of the younger generation, fostering exchanges and relations between mass organizations and youth of the two sides, promoting bilateral and multilateral mechanisms and frameworks for trade and investment cooperation, strengthening information exchange on the international situation, enhancing cooperation between the two countries diplomatic missions and coordinating positions in international forums.

Prior to the talks, the United Russia delegation laid a wreath at the Monument of Heroes and Martyrs, visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and held a meeting with the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association.

On the occasion, the two sides issued a joint statement highlighting the results of Medvedev's official visit to Vietnam to enhance cooperation on regional and international issues and ultimately strengthen ties between the two nations.

The statement emphasized the importance of promoting peace and security for the benefit of both peoples, upholding the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, and continuing to advance bilateral relations through previous agreements and documents signed by the leaders of both parties and countries.
