Vietnam urges Cuba and the US to reach an agreement on relationship normalization soon.

Vietnam expects the US and Cuba to normalize relations soon for a better future for the Americas and the world, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said today (June 6).

At the ministry’s regular press conference, Hang said that Vietnam acknowledges the US’ decision to remove Cuba from the list of countries deemed uncooperative on counterterrorism.

However, the US still considers Cuba a state sponsor of terrorism, she said, adding that Vietnam and the international  community call on the US to stop labeling Cuba as such and lift the embargo against the Caribbean nation.

Hang also reiterated Vietnam's consistent stance in supporting the United Nations General Assembly resolution calling on the US to end the embargo against Cuba.

“We hope that the US will take the necessary steps to fully normalize its relations with Cuba, contributing to peace, prosperity, and growth for the Latin region," she said.
