Vietnam enters top 5 in Int’l Mathematics Competition 2019

Vietnamese students are among few contestants who did the exam directly in English without an interpreter.
Vietnam won two champion cups, four gold and five silver medals of the competition, which was held in Durban city, South Africa, on August 1-6.

This is an annual international math competition held alternately in member countries for outstanding students from over 40 countries and territories around the world. 

This year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training sent 15 students from Hanoi-Amsterdam School for Gifted Students to compete at the categories for those aged under 14 and from 14-17.

In the individual contest, Vietnamese students won four gold and five silver medals, and one consolation prize. Meanwhile, in the team contest, Vietnam grabbed two champion cups, one first and two second prizes.

According to Ha Vu Anh, head of Hanoi-Amsterdam School’s Information and Mathematics Group and  head of the Vietnamese delegation to attend IMC 2019, Vietnamese students are among few contestants who did the exam directly in English without an interpreter. 

Winning an individual gold medal, Do Hoang Quoc Bao, a 9th-grade student in Hanoi-Amsterdam school said that this year's exam required the candidates to maximize their creativity and ability to analyze.

Besides the contest, members of the Vietnamese team participated in various cultural activities on August 4 to disseminate Vietnamese people’s talent and wisdom.
