Fuel supplies have been secured in advance, while the electricity sector has committed to avoiding power outages or service interruptions during Tet.

Electricity consumption during Tet or the Lunar New Year is expected to be low as most industrial facilities scale down or halt production.

Vice Director General of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Ngo Son Hai stated this during a meeting with Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) Nguyen Hong Dien on January 25.

Daily power generation is expected to average 561 million kWh or approximately 60% of a regular workday. As a result, the power supply will remain stable and secure throughout the holiday period.

According to Hai, the power sector has developed a comprehensive plan to ensure electricity supply to businesses and households, including measures for security and fire safety. There will be no scheduled outages or supply cuts, except for emergency repairs.

On the same day, MOIT Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan led a delegation to inspect fuel supply preparations for the Tet holiday.

Dao Nam Hai, CEO of Petrolimex, said that the company had secured fuel supplies in advance. "By the end of 2024, we had already negotiated long-term purchase contracts for 2025 with both domestic and international suppliers," he said.

For this year, Petrolimex has signed long-term contracts to secure approximately 7.37 million tons of fuel, which represents 70% of last year's domestic sales volume.

Demand for fuel typically rises by 20-30% in the days leading up to Tet. To ensure sufficient supply, the company has stocked up approximately 280,000  tons of gasoline and 400,000  tons of diesel at its storage facilities in the first half of January—equivalent to 70-80% of its monthly supply commitments.

Additionally, Petrolimex has developed contingency plans to address any emergencies. Hai said staff will remain on duty at service stations throughout the holiday to handle any unexpected developments promptly.
