Vietnam has administered the Covid-19 vaccines to more than 600 foreign diplomats and staff of the UN bodies in the country.

Foreigners in Vietnam will get vaccinated when more Covid-19 vaccines arrive in the country, Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) affirmed today.

“Foreign citizens will be subject to vaccination when Vietnam receives more Covid-19 vaccines to enable the country to achieve herd immunity,” Hang said at the press conference on June 24.

“Vietnam makes no discrimination in inoculation or healthcare between its citizens and foreigners living, studying, and working in the country,” she said at the event.

Vietnam has offered vaccination to more than 600 representatives of foreign missions and international organizations in the country. Foreign reporters will get jabs next week.

She said vaccinating foreigners is part of Vietnam’s routine to achieve herd immunity, noting that the Government of Vietnam always cares and supports foreigners to ensure their business, safety, and medical care when needed.

In response to the recognition of “immunity” passport or vaccine passport, Hang said the government has agreed with the MoFA’s proposal on adjusting regulations on entry and quarantine to vaccine passport holders.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked the Ministry of Health to shorten quarantine time to one week instead of three for vaccinated incoming people.

Meanwhile, the Politburo, the country’s most powerful body, in mid-June required local authorities to authorize foreign vaccine passport holders to visit some unaffected areas like Phu Quoc Island, one of the country’s major tourist attractions, on trial basis.
