The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) proposed to extend the temporary closure of Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh province) to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic.

Director of the CAAV Dinh Viet Thang has signed an urgent document asking the Ministry of Transport to extend the temporary closure of Van Don airport from 12am on February 21 to 6am on March 3.

The facility has been closed since January 28 after several Covid-19 cases among Van Don International Airport staff were found.

The above proposal was made after the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province required the people, who related to the coronavirus carriers, to take home isolation for another 14 days, starting from February 17.

It means that 300 staff of the airport will complete self-isolation by March 2.

Previously, the order to shut down the operations of the airport, where 10 cases of Covid-19 were detected among security personnel, has also been effective from January 28 and last for 14 days. Authorities have further extended the airport closure until 12am on February 13 as a precautionary measure in the pandemic prevention and control.

Recently, CAAV has also asked the Ministry of Transport to consider giving vaccination priority to passenger check-in staff, cargo handling staff, flight attendants, pilots, and air traffic controllers as they are exposed to high risks of Covid-19 infection.
