US urged against including Vietnam in religious freedom concern list
Ngoc Mai 20:17, 2024/01/11
Vietnam's efforts and achievements in safeguarding human rights, including ensuring freedom of religion and belief, have recently been internationally acknowledged.

Vietnam requests the US to refrain from including it in the list of countries of particular concern on religious freedom, emphasizing the need for objective assessments based on accurate and comprehensive information regarding the religious freedom and beliefs situation in Vietnam.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang stressed the view during a press briefing held today (January 11), responding to a reporter's question regarding Vietnam's placement on the US special watch list for religious freedom.

According to Hang, Vietnam's consistent policy is to respect and ensure human rights, including the freedom of religion and beliefs of its citizens. This commitment is clearly outlined in the 2013 Constitution and Vietnam's legal system, reflecting practical implementation and respect, Hang said.

“Vietnam's efforts and achievements in safeguarding human rights, including ensuring freedom of religion and belief, have been internationally acknowledged. We regret and urge the US not to include it in the special watch list on religious freedom,” Hang continued.

She added that Vietnam is willing to discuss mutual concerns with the US in a spirit of openness, frankness, and mutual respect. This collaboration aims to contribute to the promotion of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development between Vietnam and the US.
