According to the recent amended decision approved by the Prime Minister, Vietnam aims to address flooding and reach 100% of daily-life wastewater treated up to defined standards in all urban centres by 2050.
The Prime Minister recently approved the amended decision on the development of drainage in Vietnam’s urban centres and industrial parks up to 2025 and a vision towards 2050.
Under the decision, urban centres will be free of flooding by 2050.
The new decision aims to improve the legal framework for drainage development, develop comprehensive and stable systems of water drainage, increase connections to sewers by households and ensure regular maintenance of the drainage systems.

According to the decision, by 2020, the country targets expanding the service capacity of urban drainage systems to more than 70% and installing rainwater drainage systems in all urban roads and residential streets.
Besides, 50% of wastewater from urban centres of grade II upwards and 20% of wastewater from grade V upwards will be collected and treated up to defined standards while the service capacity of urban drainage systems will be rised to over 80% by 2025.
Vietnam strives to stop flooding and about 100% of daily-life wastewater being treated up to defined standards in all urban centres by 2050.
The government will solve environmental pollution by revising urban drainage planning in light of climate change and developing maps of areas prone to flooding, landslides and flashfloods.
In addition, the priorities will be paid to projects on environmental issues in residential areas while localities are encouraged to assist craft villages and industrial businesses in building proper drainage systems.
